I'm participating in today's Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's prompt is:
Top Ten Books I Would Classify As My ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS From the Past Three Years
If I were to give you a list of all time favorite books that I've ever read, most of that list would be comprised of books I read more than three years ago, either due to nostalgia (The Giver) or due to their influence on my life over the years (Life of Pi, The Book Thief). So this was fun to think of my more recent favorites. All links go to my reviews. Are any of your favorite books on this list??
I'll be preaching this book for years to come. I've never read such a captivating look into relationships.
9. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Reading this book felt like reading a biography about myself. I felt really, personally attached to every aspect of this novel, and it moved me an unusual amount.
8. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
What a beautiful book. Really, this book is powerful, and simple, and just really, really beautifully written.
7. This is Not Your City by Caitlin Horrocks
This book of short stories stayed with me and became a part of my heart. Do you ever feel that way? I just feel like a part of my soul is comprised of these stories.
6. The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene
Say what you will about the overabundance of wit, but I found this book to be the most emotional book I've read in the past three years. I felt everything: from joy to pain to contentment to heartbreak to hilarity. Plus, this is the only book to have made me cry in the past three years.
5. The Seven Realms Series by Cinda Williams Chima
This series might be my favorite complete series I've read within the past three years. I blew through the whole thing, and loved every minute. Hats off to you, Ms. Chima.
4. Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn
It's rare for me to read a book and think that the protagonist's personality is based on myself. Zoe and I are basically the same person, living in different dimensions. Also, this book started my love affair with Sharon Shinn, so there's that.
3. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
This book sold me on one of my favorite new series to come out within the past three years. I'm now a huge Celaena fan, and am trying my hardest to convert everyone around me.
2. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Goodness, this book was hugely entertaining, all while tackling some really serious subjects. It would be the perfect book club book. I had a blast reading it.
1. The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P. by Adelle Waldman
I loved this book, largely because it infuriated me. It makes you think, it makes you smarter, and it urges you to be better than Nathaniel. Definitely worth its spot on this list.
If you were to make a list of your all time favorite books from the past three years, what would they be?
Great list! Fangirl ALMOST made my list, but I decided to put Eleanor and Park on it instead. It was so hard to narrow them down. :)
ReplyDeleteIt really was hard to narrow the list. But at least one of Rainbow Rowell's books seems to have made everyone's list!
DeleteAristotle and Dante and Crown of Midnight are on my list too! And I really loved Fangirl and TFIOS too. I haven't heard of most of the others, will definitely check them out on Goodreads though.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
Yay! I definitely recommend all of these, obviously, since they're on this list. :) Hope you enjoy!
DeleteOk, definitely need to read Big Little Lies and The Seven Realms Series. I don't know what my favorite books would be from the last three years.
ReplyDeleteYes! Definitely! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
DeleteGreat list! I loved Fangirl. I can't wait for more Throne of Glass books!!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm dying waiting for Queen of Shadows.
DeleteAwesome list! The Fault in Our Stars and Fangirl are both so amazing. I really want to pick up Throne of Glass because I have heard such great things!
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
You've probably heard this a million times, but Throne of Glass really is SOO GOOD!! Do give it a try, chances are you'll love it!
DeleteI definitely will! :)
DeleteYay! That's what I like to hear. :)
DeleteThe only one I've read on your list is The Fault in our Stars and I wasn't that blown away by it. But, I think that may have been that I was spoiled as I was reading it. The movie invoked more emotion in me than the book did.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! While I thought the film was well done, I much prefer the book, partially because I thought it invoked more emotion than the film did! Funny how that works sometimes.
DeleteLIANE MORIARTY! What Alice Forgot almost made my Top ... 15 (*ahem*). I loved that book, and The Hypnotist's Love Story - they were both so intriguing and definitely not your run of the mill "women's fiction" and certainly not "chick lit". (Not that both of those categories don't have their place on my shelves, mind you;) I'm very interested in both of her other newer ones, and glad to see you found Big Little Lies captivating. I might have to move that one up on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteAnd then there's The Seven Realms series ... how did this just properly come onto my radar last year? I'd seen it around but never add it to my TBR list until then. I still don't have any of the series on my shelves, but I did request the first one from my #OTSPsecretsister so we'll see! Haha.
Great list, Melissa!
Ooh, I hope you get the Seven Realms series from your #OTSPsecretsister!! It's so much fun, I think you'll love it.
DeleteAnd, lastly, ALL HAIL LIANE MORIARTY.
I read The Little Prince too years ago, and that is actually my all time favorite xD
ReplyDeleteGood picks (:
I've actually never read The Little Prince! But I've heard good things.
DeleteI am one of those people who only thought TFiOS was an okay read. I do want to try Big Little Lies and the Throne of Glass series, because I have heard such brilliant things about them!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I loved Big Little Lies and the Throne of Glass series. I am DYING for book 4 to come out.
